START ON A WIDE BOX
If you start on a wide box you can learn how to ride the module without having to do an ollie.
Practise and repeat the move several times on the same module, increasing your speed before moving on to more advanced modules.
The 50-50 is a basic snowboarding trick when you start freestyling. It consists of sliding on a box or rail. But how do you master it? We’ll explain everything!
When you want to start snowboarding boxes and rails, you begin with the 50-50. It's a basic trick that consists of sliding on the module, with your snowboard flat, facing the slope.
Here we explain how to master it:
If you start on a wide box you can learn how to ride the module without having to do an ollie.
Practise and repeat the move several times on the same module, increasing your speed before moving on to more advanced modules.
BEFORE TAKING THE MODULE
Control your speed as you approach the box and keep your board flat pointing down the slope.
ONCE ON THE BOX
Keep your shoulders parallel to the board. You can use your arms for balance.
LANDING
Land with the board flat and both feet on the ground at the same time. Bend your knees to soften your landing.
With practice, you'll be able to do a fifty-fifty on a narrower box or rails. Rails require more balance, good speed control and the right approach angle.
Next, you can add an ollie as you enter the 50-50, coming in slightly to the side, still keeping parallel to the box or rail.
You are now well placed to do a successful 50-50.
That's the theory, now it's time to put it into practice!
